Traumatic Rupture of Amebic Liver Abscess

Abstract
Amebic liver abscess are due to spread of Endamoeba histolytica from intestinal lesions by way of the portal system. It is very rare in children and the right lobe in involved in 50 to 68 percent according to literature.
The amebic liver abscess may rupture spontaneously into neighboring organs or cavities. We experienced a case of traumatic rupture of right amebic liver abscess into the abdominal cavity due to traffic accident in 8 year old school boy. At first, we misdiagnosed as traumatic liver laceration because of peritoneal irritation signs, anemia, rapid pulse, lowering of blood pressure and aspiration of dark red coloured fluid on paracentesis. We failed to demonstrate: amebae and it¢¥s cyst from the content of abscess and tissue specimen, But succeeded in stool examination. We could observe gas containing small cyst suspecting amebic lung abscess at the -posterior portion of right lower lobe on roentgenographically.
